Plans for a museum at the castle

The fully-restored keep opened its doors to the public in November. Restoration work at the Château de Châteaubriant continues with work scheduled to begin on the residential dwellings of the castle complex. Our aim is to transform the site into a veritable archaeological laboratory!

The Département and Grand Patrimoine de Loire-Atlantique have decided to take advantage of this restoration work in order to add a museum space to the site that will allow the public to make the most of their visit by learning even more about its history.

Archaeology at the heart of the project

The new museum will feature the following:

At the ground-floor level: an educational workshop with an excavation area will allow younger visitors to discover archaeology. A second room will be devoted to the history of the castle with an immersive and educational multimedia installation.

The inside spaces of the medieval part of the castle will be laid out in such a way as to present exhibitions of archaeological objects. The rich and varied collections of the Musée Dobrée will be added to the objects on display at this new museum. Opening scheduled for 2016!
